Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Joe Paterno tied Eddie Robinson for the most wins as a head coach in Division I football history with his 408th victory as his Penn State Nittany Lions went on the road to defeat Northwestern 34-24 at Ryan Field and remain unbeaten in Big Ten Conference action. Matthew McGloin took over full duty of the quarterback position for Penn State (7-1, 4-0 Big Ten) after splitting time with Rob Bolden in recent weeks. hird-year head coach Danny Hope has his Boilermakers off to a 3-3 start, as the team has rotated wins and losses consistently since besting Middle Tennessee in the season opener. Last weekend, Purdue put forth a solid effort on the road against Penn State, but fell by a 23-18 final. Illinois owns a 41-37-6 series advantage over Purdue, but the Boilermakers have won the last four meetings, the most recent of which took place in 2006. Conditioning drills paying off for Penn State Mon Oct 10 04:37:00 2011 EST

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Through the summer and into preseason camp, Penn State's coaches placed a renewed emphasis on running and conditioning drills.

Halfway through the season, that extra work is paying off.

Penn State finished strong in a 13-3 win Saturday over Iowa, forcing three fourth-quarter turnovers and turning up the blitz to end a three-game skid against the Hawkeyes.

Once again, relentless defense carried Penn State (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten).

season to a possible two games. Posey had already been suspended for the first five games this season following a memorabilia scandal involving the owner of a local tattoo parlor, meaning the earliest he could play is a November 19 game against Penn State. Three other Buckeyes players -- running back Daniel Herron, offensive lineman Marcus Hall and defensive end Melvin Fellows -- were suspended one game for similar reasons on Friday. All the players must repay the benefits. Posey received approx

OTHER THREE-STAR PLAYS One thing which is a constant when Iowa plays Penn State: the Hawkeyes come out victorious. It doesn't matter where the game is played since they have won (and covered) nine of the last 11 meetings, including a 5-1 mark both SU and ATS at Beaver Stadium. Furthermore, the Nittany Lions were favored in

The team has dropped four of its first five games in 2011, with the lone win coning against South Carolina State (38-21) a few weeks ago. Since then, Indiana has dropped two straight close affairs, falling to North Texas on the road (24-21) and Penn State at home last weekend (16-10). This game marks the 69th all-time meeting in this series. Illinois holds a 44-21-3 advantage all-time and has won three of the last four meetings overall. The Illini battled all the way back from an 18-point defici

As for Baumert and the season tickets he bought from Wisconsin, he sold to a broker the ones he had for three nonconference games and the Big Ten games against Indiana and Purdue. He hasn't gotten rid of the tickets for Penn State.

``We're trying to make as much back as we can,'' Baumert said. ``Every dollar we get back on those is one less we had to pay for a Nebraska ticket.''

Baumert said he won't renew his Wisconsin season tickets in 2012. He will, however, buy s

Alabama and Florida meet in pivotal SEC matchup Wed Sep 28 10:54:03 2011 EST
this weekend, as the 12th-ranked Florida Gators and third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will duke it out in what promises to be a tremendous SEC battle. Alabama has won all four of its games thus far by 16 points or more, including victories over Penn State and Arkansas. Last weekend's 38-14 romp over the Razorbacks in the conference opener was impressive to say the least, but there is no doubt that Florida represents the toughest test to date for head coach Nick Saban and company. "This is a chal
