Stricker sets 54-hole mark on PGA Tour

07/10/2010 - Silvis, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Steve Stricker has set the 54-hole scoring record on the PGA Tour.

Stricker fired a nine-under 62 at the John Deere Classic on Saturday to finish three rounds at 25-under 188. That broke the old record of 189 established by John Cook at the 1996 St. Jude Classic.

The defending champion, Stricker collected nine birdies during another day of perfect scoring conditions at the TPC Deere Run, but he secured the record with a par.

After driving into the rough at the 18th, Stricker played his second shot out into the fairway, then stuck his third about seven inches from the hole.

Chasing his ninth tour win, he will carry a six-shot lead into the final round.

"We've got one more round tomorrow and that's my focus," said Stricker.

Paul Goydos, who carded the fourth 59 in tour history on Thursday, had a 67 playing alongside Stricker and shares second place with Jeff Maggert (63) at 19-under 194.

Goydos is trying to avoid becoming the second player to shoot a 59 on the PGA Tour and lose. Chip Beck did that at the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational
